chartreuseA stock kernel wouldn't be able to boot on the reform (at least a normal debian one), I think there's still patches also needed still for compiling your own mainline kernel03:24
chartreuseBut installing a package wouldn't replace the kernel as debian doesn't know how your bootloader works and would just install one in /boot if it even works03:25

joschchartreuse: yes, but Boostisbetter has the mnt repos enabled, so installing linux-image-arm64 would not download the stock Debian kernel but our patched version.12:50

Boostisbetterjosch: great to hear!17:34
BoostisbetterI love this thing (Reform). 17:34
joschBoostisbetter: should you now "apt install linux-image-arm64" then it *should* do the right thing, that is copy the kernel to /boot and create /boot/boot.scr with the right contents -- but I never tried that so i think it's a bit risky17:35
BoostisbetterI think I am going to hold off on doing that until there is a reason for me to get the latest image. 17:37
Boostisbetterright now my Reform is working great, and I would really like it to stay that way. 17:38
KoodaIf you have a spare sd card, that could be a way to test things :)17:38
BoostisbetterAt work we are going to be working on embedded linux and i feel like after i've been on the job porting some applications for that project, that my understanding of the inner workings of Linux will be at a point that I'll be comfortable doing it17:38

ckeenhi, it is me again. I felt adventurous and installed a 5.18 linux-image with apt, however I do get the warning that cryptroot is not found in crypttab19:30
ckeen(Yes I am booting from emmc but to an encrypted nvme atm)19:30
ckeenis there something I need to fix manually before rebooting?19:30
ckeen(and does that even work that way for my setup?)19:35

vkoskiv_Two questions: The system controller is connected to ttymxc2, are the other two uarts used for anything?19:48
vkoskiv_And if so, the reform-standby configures them as wakeup sources, why's that?19:48

minutevkoskiv_: 0 and 1 are the debug uarts20:07
ckeenso a reboot did not boot the new kernel, do I need to put it on the mmc?20:17
chartreusejosch, ah didn't know there was a repo now (I'm quite out of date, and still not running even the v3 image on mine >_>)20:59
chartreusejosch: Is the packaged kernel set to copy itself to the SD card or EMMC though? Otherwise it won't be used on boot20:59
BoostisbetterI know the Reform has EMMC storage, but I honestly, have never even though about using it. I like the utility and flexibility of the SD card. I also like that if my nvme ever gets messed up, I can easily just run the nvme script when getting a new own to kind of start over on the factory image. 21:04
BoostisbetterAlthough I should probably update my SD card with the most latest version of things. I'll need to get around to that sooner or later. 21:04
chartreuseI'm tempted to do it, but still haven't. Just to make the sd card slot a bit easier to use with cameras and such. Since I wouldn't have to keep the card nearby and remember to reinstall it after. But that's still minor21:05

joschchartreuse: the kernel is installed to /boot -- it's up to you from where you have your /boot mounted21:13
chartreuseAh fair. Guess I forgot how it's all setup21:36
Koodackeen: the kernel has to be on the boot device iirc, so yes emmc, and you have to run reform-boot-config --emmc  I believe21:44

ckeenKooda: running that says that there is no /dev/mmcblk0p2 device. which there isn't. I ran reform-boot-config --emmc emmc 22:28

ckeenmy emmc is probably too old, I guess I should download the v3 image and run flash-rescure.sh from there first...22:36
joschckeen: correckt -- a sysimage-v3 cannot boot from emmc if there is no /boot partition on emmc22:38
vkoskiv_I looked up the datasheet and schematics to see what the red lights D8 and D9 mean, and I'm still not entirely sure23:27
vkoskiv_I don't know how the chip is configured, so both of them on is either NTC fault, whatever that is, or Bulk Charge :D23:27
vkoskiv_But the Bulk Charge state is valid if the chip is configued in lead-acid mode, which doesn't seem right.23:28
vkoskiv_I just sometimes see both lights on, sometimes only one, so I started wondering what they mean.23:28
vkoskiv_Unrelated question: Is it safe to swap the current limiting resistors for the two power rail LEDs (R33 and R164) to reduce the brightness of those lights?23:29
vkoskiv_My very limited electronics knowledge says that should be totally safe to do.23:29
minutevkoskiv_: one light means it's charging, two lights means it's currently not charging (full or balancing)23:38
minutevkoskiv_: this is controlled by the lpc firmware. i toggle the charger off using a fault mode, basically23:39
vkoskiv_Ah, right. Thanks for clarifying.23:41
vkoskiv_Reading the schematics is a fun way to try and find answers to questions23:41
vkoskiv_I just find that datasheets seem to phrase things in a way that fails to convey any meaning to me. I assume I just don't know the lingo.23:41
ckeenjosch: where is the official place to download the v3 image? The link to the artifacts for the tag seem to have expired as the link on the release page for the image files 404...23:51
