Boostisbetter | dodo: ok, I was tabbing it for auto complete and it wasn't working so I thought it wasn't the correct package name. I just manually typed it in, and it installed. Thanks! | 07:32 |
josch | Boostisbetter: apt-listbugs installs an apt configuration into your /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/ which makes apt query the Debian bug tracker for release critical bugs in the package versions you are about to install | 07:56 |
josch | Boostisbetter: you can then check out the bugs that you think could possibly affect you and abort the installation if you see something that could be a problem for you | 07:57 |
josch | Boostisbetter: with apt-listbugs installed you avoid all the crazy bad problems that are usually found in "unstable" that already got reported | 07:57 |
josch | but of course you can still be unlucky and install a package that just got into the archive and for which you are one of the first to encounter the release critical bug | 07:58 |
dodo | Boostisbetter: hm, you have bash-completion installed, don't you? | 09:06 |
+ MajorBiscuit (~MajorBisc@c-001-005-040.client.tudelft.eduvpn.nl) | 09:12
Boostisbetter | Well I don't know. My experience has always been that tab auto completes. | 10:08 |
josch | Boostisbetter: you should have /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/apt for this to work | 10:45 |
Boostisbetter | josch: yep I do, excellent, glad to know now why that always works. | 12:57 |
josch | Boostisbetter: oh so it works for you now? | 13:00 |
Boostisbetter | josch: if you mean tab completion, it was always working on the Reform. | 13:02 |
Boostisbetter | It just didn't seem to work when typing apt-listbugs | 13:02 |
josch | Boostisbetter: can you reproduce the problem? | 13:18 |
Boostisbetter | well tab to complete works on other things still, it never broke | 13:18 |
Boostisbetter | I think there might have just been too many results or something | 13:18 |
josch | Boostisbetter: can you reproduce the problem of tab completion with apt-listbugs right now? | 13:19 |
josch | Boostisbetter: I'm a contributor to apt so I'd like to hear of bugs so that I can fix them. | 13:19 |
Boostisbetter | No, I think I just didn't have enough data typed before trying it, and instead of tabbing a few times to get a list of all the options, I just did it once or twice and nothing happened. | 13:20 |
Boostisbetter | josch: apt is awesome, thanks for the work | 13:21 |
josch | Boostisbetter: thank juliank and DonKult -- the stuff they do is awesome :) | 13:22 |

bkeys | I do a lot of stuff with samba shares and networking; does anyone know of a high end wireless card with libre drivers I can put in the Reform? | 19:13 |
Boostisbetter | I really have had no problems with the wifi card that the Reform comes with . | 19:16 |
bkeys | I got one that uses ath9k; I am not sure if it is 5GHz capable though | 19:16 |
Boostisbetter | The one with the Reform is 5ghz capable, I believe | 19:19 |
bkeys | Alright; once these people repair the display I will probably investigate it further | 19:20 |
+ S0rin (~S0rin@user/s0rin) | 19:21
Boostisbetter | I've seen mumblings in the forums about the range of the internal card, but I mean with a full aluminum enclosure, I guess that is to be expected. For me, I have had zero issue getting reception anywhere in my house. | 19:22 |
bkeys | Gosh, once I get Fedora on the Reform I am gonna let this pinebook pro collect dust | 19:24 |
bkeys | But I gotta get it repaired | 19:24 |
josch | bkeys: much success!! | 19:24 |
bkeys | At least it's under warranty. I can wait; I also have honeycomb workstations out getting repaired as well | 19:24 |
bkeys | josch: Huh? | 19:24 |
josch | bkeys: much success with getting your reform repaired :) | 19:25 |
bkeys | Oh yes, at least I don't have to pay for this repair since it's under warranty. I am gonna wait until I have a functional Reform before I write my glowing review for the community to read | 19:25 |
bkeys | Although I still recommend them given the experience that I have had so far | 19:25 |
bkeys | I got a writeup made of the conversation we had about the display to help whoever's hands the Reform makes its way into. I got a long Amtrak (passenger train) vacation this November with my wife and kid so as long as the Reform is ready by then I will be happy | 19:26 |
bkeys | It seems once it's repaired getting Fedora on there will be very well possible | 19:27 |

josch | Boostisbetter: you've been lucky you haven't been hit by some bugs we've had in unstable. We had one that would've made your system unbootable, for example. You just happened to upgrade at the "right" time where the packages you installed were bug free. It's quite the gamble even if you are an expert because nobody will check all the changes when upgrading. I'm looking forward to running Debian stable | 21:07 |
josch | (with our custom kernel) on the reform. | 21:07 |
josch | That being said, Debian unstable is probably as "stable" as Arch or similar rolling release distros. If that's what you call stable then I guess that's just what works for you. :) | 21:08 |
Boostisbetter | josch: I absolutely prefer stable releases myself. Partially why I always stick to LTS | 21:09 |
dodo | i've had one boot problem in 15 years of using unstable that was related to upgrading.. | 21:18 |
