eeryIs it possible to turn the LCD itself off? The backlight can be blanked but I'd like to actually shutoff the LCD to prevent image retention from having a static image on for hours07:14
C-Keencircle esc should do it eery 07:16
eerythe LCD, not the OLED :)07:16
- GNUmoon (QUIT: Ping timeout: 240 seconds) (~GNUmoon@gateway/tor-sasl/gnumoon)07:26
C-Keeneery: ah right07:27
eeryit's not a big deal, just leaves a temporary ghost image if there's a high contrast image on the LCD for a long time07:29
eerymostly an OCD thing on my part haha07:29
C-Keenif you turn down the brightness of the LCD won't it go off at the lowest setting?07:47
C-Keenon sway that's super F1 increase with super f207:48
C-Keenor via brightnessctl on the command line07:49
C-KeenI am not sure whehter that's just the backlight or the whole lcd07:49
eeryIt kills the backlight but the LCD panel itself is still going, in direct light you can still see the screen07:49
C-Keenthere might be a blank cmd implemented in the display driver through sysfs07:50
eeryokay, that's something, writing 1 to /sys/class/graphics/fb0/blank does shut off the display from a console07:58
eeryso the display driver supports it at some level07:58
+ oomono (uid328183@id-328183.tinside.irccloud.com)08:05
C-Keenyou map that to some keys or use https://github.com/swaywm/swayidle/blob/master/swayidle.1.scd to have it blank the screen08:07
Asmadeusif using sway, 'swaymsg "output * disable"' seems to turn things off (until reenabled manually so not exactly pratical), so I'd expect swaylock to be able to blank it properly (at least it can paint it black..)08:08
Asmadeusah dpms off, that's what I was looking for instead of disable08:09
eeryoh, yeah I figured out the problem08:15
C-Keendo tell!08:15
eeryI've been using gnome because I have no taste and I realized it just refuses to blank the screen unless it's running under gdm, because gnome08:16
C-Keenoh, that's unfortunate!08:16
eeryyeah, I'm realizing the blanking functionality is part of the lock-screen that's tied to gdm08:17
eerywhich is why it wasn't working :P ah well08:17
eeryany recommendations for other good stacking-style wayland compositors?08:18
C-Keenso the blank screen in the powersavings options do nothing?08:19
eeryyup08:19
eeryunless it was launched through gdm08:19
eeryjust tested it08:19
C-Keenah08:20
eerywell, I didn't actually test it, I just saw that locking it correctly blanks the screen, I'll try that now08:21
+ GNUmoon (~GNUmoon@gateway/tor-sasl/gnumoon)08:21
eeryit wasn't working when launched from a tty though08:21
C-Keenyou could use dbus monitoring with your own script to trigger your desired behaviour08:21
C-Keensomething like this: https://askubuntu.com/questions/992699/run-command-when-idle-active#99317808:22
C-Keenyou don't have to ditch gnome if you are attached to that08:22
eeryhonestly I just enabled gdm, I need a password lock anyway, just dissapointed it doesn't work without08:23
C-KeenI see08:23
eerylooks like it only uses about 8MB of resident memory, so not ... the worst, I guess08:25
eeryit's funny, I used to use wmii2/i3 in my teens through my early 20s but now I've started to prefer keeping terminals at constant widths08:32
C-KeenI am still using dwm a lot then sway wasn't too far off08:33
eerysway is really nice, as far as tiling goes08:34
joschI was using awesomewm for years before but sway/i3 does everything I liked about the awesomewm tiling using autotiling https://github.com/nwg-piotr/autotiling08:42

BoostisbetterWhenever I switch back to a Windows machine, I find myself trying to switch workspaces using the windows keys and numbers. 11:12

minutewat > Unit gitlab-runner.service could not be found.13:22
flowyi'm using the reform a lot again all of a sudden due to some necessary travel. using it as my main laptop these days. anyways, with new 2000mah batts, i'm really happy with the performance. i've tested 4h30m-5h under active use. so nice! and charging is so fast13:23
minutejosch: the gitlab-runner package/services was nuked through an apt upgrade perhaps? that was done inside a build?13:23
minute> package is in a very bad inconsistent state; 13:24
minutewe had this before13:24
joschminute: yes, it probably happened here: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/blob/main/.gitlab-ci.yml13:26
joschthat runs "apt upgrade" as well as "apt dist-upgrade"13:27
minutejosch: i guess it would be safer to remove these from the gitlab ci script?13:28
joschi agree13:28
minuteand if new packages are needed on the build machine, i would upgrade it manually13:29
joschminute: sounds good. I committed https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/commit/5719ab438b0f14f41991590f719756c859817adb to prevent breakages like this in the future.13:35
minutejosch: thanks! the builder is running again 13:37
joschnice, thank you!13:38
