Boostisbetterbeing without a desktop is killing me. I have this Core X Chroma eGPU I have been trying to use with my Framework laptop, but it is buggy to the max. So I've just stuck to using laptops. I don't know how people do it. I mean having a good keyboard like the Reform does certainly helps12:49
Boostisbetterbut I just don't get how being hunched over looking at a laptop screen is better than a desktop environment12:50
BoostisbetterHopefully I will have a desktop back in about a month. 12:50

Boostisbetterminute: does the BMC on the Reform take into account the lower normal voltage of the LIFEPO4 batteries? I ask because mine is reporting that the batteries are still outputting a voltage of 25.6V which would mean that all of the batteries are giving exactly what they are supposed to. 13:16
Boostisbetterminute: however, the BMC reports that I only 39% battery life left?13:16
Boostisbetterminute: is it able to recognize that these batteries have a higher capacity and report based on that detection?13:17
Boostisbetterminute: IE: should I trust what the BMC is reporting here?13:21
Boostisbetterminute: because if this is true, then these batteries are so far giving me less battery life. 13:21
Boostisbetterminute: or do lifepo4 batteries need to cycle a few times to reach peak capacity?13:39

sigridjosch: i sent a patch here not long ago15:58
sigrid22:51 < sigrid> a bit of time saved for those who want 5.17 rc4: http://okturing.com/src/13099/body15:59
joschsigrid: Thanks! I arrived at the same patch after having seen the recent changes to arch/arm64/boot/dts/freescale/imx8mq.dtsi16:01

joschsigrid: your voidlinux dotconfig for the kernel is also super useful to me to minimize the diff towards Debian -- thanks for that! :)16:26
sigridnp :) I tried to keep it as close as possible to the defaults in void linux, but there is still some work to be done there16:32
sigridthe _actual_ default config I used made the system hang altogether16:32
sigridso I have to spend some time turning a bunch of options on and checking whether it still works fine16:33
joschyeah I'm in the process of doing the same but my build machine is a thinkpad from 9 years ago and rebuilding takes hours :(16:44
sigridare you using ccache?16:45
sigridanyway, 9 years and current linux kernel sounds rough16:46
joschtried but building a Debian kernel takes up 40+ GB of disk space and i barely have even that so I have to find a larger drive and put the ccache there16:46
joschon the plus side, with that old a machine as my daily machine, using the reform is not much of a downgrade in terms of processing power XD16:50
sigridmy other machine is a system76 amd ryzen with 16 cores, 32Gb ram and 1Tb nvme, but I prefer reform. that powerful one is laying in the closet, connected to the router directly16:51
sigridthat's where I cross-compile everything for the reform :D16:51
joschCan somebody confirm that the image downloadable from https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-system-image/-/jobs/642/artifacts/browse/reform2-imx8mq/ works for them? It works fine for me but apparently not for everybody: https://source.mnt.re/josch/reform-system-image/-/commit/3346f9c56b89b0b310436322bcd1817343fa5c7e#note_198017:17

joschI'm still experimenting with my kernel config. I'm at a point where the boot messages as they scroll by look all fine until suddenly the display freezes and looks like this: https://mister-muffin.de/p/CZ_q.jpg (no this is not me shaking my camera)18:39
joschI wonder what changes so late in the boot process that makes the display output become like that...18:39
sigridglitch art18:40
sigridI've had this one too once :) no idea though, fixed it by adjusting the kernel config a lot *shrugs*18:41

minuteBoostisbetter: actually, the LPC code has a capacity of 1800mAh hardcoded, good point... at least it starts with that assumption21:13
- technomancy (PART: ERC (IRC client for Emacs 26.1.50)) (~user@170.ip-158-69-211.net)21:14
Boostisbetterminute: does that mean the calculations will always be off for the 2000maH cells? 21:16
minuteBoostisbetter: normally it should adjust after one cycle of 1. 100% charge 2. reaching low voltage, i.e. letting it run empty21:20
minutebut it might be buggy, have not yet tested. but i do have the 2000 cells in my reform too since yesterday21:20
Boostisbetterok, I didn't let it run empty, but it got down to 7%21:20
minuteyeah but the 7% are not accurate then.21:21
Boostisbetterminute: ok, so I need to let it run completely down21:21
minuteBoostisbetter: yeah it should turn itself off at that point21:21
Boostisbetterminute: ok just took it off the charge and woke it up, using it now, and I'll let it run down this eveing21:24
Boostisbetterone thing that is nice about lifepo4 is that they are not so sensitive to being run down, especially when you got a controller protecting the voltages21:33
