Guest64When will RAM be upgradable? 4 GB really isn't a lot00:25
sigridisn't a lot for what?00:33
blueriseI'm not involved, but the SoM has soldered RAM that can't be upgraded like that. It has a maximum of 4G.00:34
blueriseThankfully it's a SoM, so SoMs can be replaced.  A future revision might sport more memory.  E.g. the CM4 adapter + a RaspberyPi CM4 with 8G or a Radxa CM3/SOQuartz with 8G.00:35

BoostisbetterGuest64: You'd be surprised at how usable 4gb is. However, I too am looking forward to getting an upgrade that includes more RAM. Being able to do multiple things without paging and using the swap is great. Still not complaining, the Reform works great as is. 12:54
vkoskivOver the last year I've validated that my essential daily workflow fits into 2GB of RAM, so I'm not at all worried about 4GB on the reform12:55
vkoskivThough of course a big reason why I got one is the upgradeability.12:55

joschmntmn: is this with blender built from reform-debian-packages? Then I'll investigate.15:45
mntmnjosch: no, it's the old custom package15:59
mntmni shall try the new one next15:59
joschyes the error is expected for the old package because several shared libraries bumped their SONAME and thus the source package needs to be rebuilt against the new versions which re-generates the binary package dependencies16:03
joschthis is also why i put blender into that repo in that way because we now need to regularly rebuild it against new library versions and fix incompatibilities were they occur to keep the old blender alive with new software around it16:03
mntmnoh interesting16:16
mntmncool16:16
mntmnthanks!16:16

mntmnweird, pipewire's pulse emulation now shows the soundcard as "Audio Pro" and there's no more headphone/speaker setting16:22

sigrid(it does not change)16:29
mntmncould be kernel/hw bug16:32
sigridI think so. it wasn't ever lower than 50C with the load I have16:33
mntmni suspect reboot will change it16:35
mntmnah, my mistake @ wm8960. didn't actually push the new audio section 16:40
mntmnok now it works, and that's cool, now all audio frequencies appear to work, not only 48khz16:44

blebsigrid: do you have a webcam worth recommending for that?18:35
sigridnope. i have one laying around that i am going to try out today, going to report my findings then18:42

mntmnsigrid: neat. i've been using talky a lot on reform, and uhhh jitsi18:59
mntmnjosch: IIRC you said it's possible to use the CI output on gitlab directly as the debian repo, or?19:03
joschmntmn: cool, i'll then use your patch stack and update the kernel built by reform-debian-packages19:03
joschmntmn: yes, I posted a working link, I think?19:04
mntmnjosch: yeah need to grep logs... because i think that might be more transparent to everyone, the repo on our webserver is kind of more obscure19:04

mntmnjosch: that way, everybody could see the source + build output if they wanted19:04
joschmntmn: the problem with the repo on gitlab is, that the job id will change on every rebuild19:04
mntmnjosch: ah so the URL changes...19:05
joschyes19:05
mntmnhmmmmm19:05
joschto increase transparency, the repo could also host the Debian source packages the binaries were built from19:06

Boostisbettermntmn: what is the maxium amps the 8 lipofe batteries could safely provide? Specifically could they be used to provide 100 watts of power (3.91 amps)?23:36
kfxmaximum sustainable amperage output is going to vary by battery model23:36
BoostisbetterYeah I'm just assuming 8 @ 3.2V each23:37
Boostisbetter25.6V combined @ 3.91 Amps for 100 watts23:37
kfxyes, but different model batteries are designed for different amp draw23:37
BoostisbetterI'm specifically talking about the batteries in the reform23:38
kfxthat's what I'm saying.  a battery from manufacturer A might be rated for 20A draw, while a battery from manudacturer B might be rated for 5A draw.23:38
BoostisbetterAs far as I'm aware all of the Reform's batteries come from one supplier23:38
BoostisbetterIE: are one manufacturer's brand23:38
kfxthey're JGNEs rated for 5.4A draw 23:39
kfxat least that's what I received23:39
Boostisbettersame here23:39
Boostisbetterok, then they should absolutely be able to do sub 4 amps23:39
Boostisbetterthe reason I am asking is because I was thinking about how it would be cool to make your own battery pack. Using 8 of those in series. 23:40
BoostisbetterFor my application I would need 100 watts of power at least start up, it would go down to around 30 watts after start up though23:40
kfxsure, for like 20 minutes23:40
kfxthere are commercially-available lifepo4 batteries available better suited to taht kind of load23:41
BoostisbetterI'm thinking the 100 watts is really just to get the system to post23:41
Boostisbetterit would be for about 6 seconds before dropping to a much lower wattage23:41
BoostisbetterI think the hard part would be sourcing a bms that could handle them. 23:42
Boostisbetterand the discharge23:42
BoostisbetterMaybe I should just look up if there are power banks already avalaible that use 18650 cells23:42
kfxthere are tons; this stuff is popular for anything from e-bikes to campervan supplies23:44
kfxhere is an example site to browse around https://www.batteryspace.com/LiFePO4/LiFeMnPO4-Batteries.aspx23:44
kfxthey also sell power management boards and so forth23:44
