boosterfivewould anyone happen to know a command I could use to turn the display off? Preferably one that turns it back on when the keyboard or mouse is moved? Since I'm leaving my Reform on all the time, I would like to make sure I'm not wasting the display backlight for nothing. When I lock the computer using swaylock, I set the screen black. But it would15:46
boosterfivebe great if when using the keyboard shortcut for that, that it would also turn the display off.15:46
boosterfivedpms off?15:47
- zylonmaster (QUIT: Ping timeout: 240 seconds) (~dlkdk@2603-7000-c601-f02e-0000-0000-0000-0353.res6.spectrum.com)15:47
boosterfiveBut will that turn the display back on when activity is detected?15:47
joschmaybe use xscreensaver?15:48
boosterfiveswayidle uses swaylock which is good enough for me, as it "locks" the machine as well15:50
boosterfiveBut I'm specifically talking about cutting the power to the display to save juice.15:50
mntmnboosterfive: the biggest power draw from the display is the backlight, which you can turn off with brightnessctl 0 for example15:54
boosterfiveahh so the best way to do what I am saying is to bundle the lock (swaylock) with the brightnessctl 015:55
+ freakazoid333 (~matt@2603-9000-cf0f-80e3-3892-94ec-2c4e-fb41.inf6.spectrum.com)15:56
boosterfiveAnd then get use superĀ  + F2 to raise the display brightness again? I guess I'm just looking for a way to automate it. Say kill brightness as soon as use the lock keybinding, and then when the mouse or keyboard is used return to previous or a set brightness.15:56

boosterfivesorry for that. Lots of typos. So upon further investigation I find that my swayidle settings at the beginning of sway's config file is working in the way I'd like. The only problem is that you can't nest sway idle into a keybinding exec call.16:21
+ zylonmaster (~dlkdk@2603-7000-c601-f02e-0000-0000-0000-0129.res6.spectrum.com)16:21
boosterfiveAnyway I just set that to a shorter 3 mintue time frame and have the display timeout 5 secoonds beyond that.16:21
boosterfiveso after 3 minutes and 5 seconds of inactivity the display should be turned off via dpms off.16:22
boosterfiveIt would be cool though if I could use the lock keybinding to lock the screen and disable the display. Only to turn back on when the mouse or keyboard is used.16:22

bkeysmntmn: Did CS ever give you an update about the ongoing situation with the whole mouser acquisition?18:45
bkeysCause I have other things I got on CS that were delayed and would be interested in that Mouser is saying18:45
mntmnbkeys: no, except that we're now waiting for them to finish the setup18:48
mntmnand i'm supposed to write an update for everyone18:48
mntmnbut i'm not sure what to write there :318:48
bkeysYeah I would say if anyone needs to write an update, it is CS/Mouser18:52

vkoskiv_Same, CS promised last thursday to put out an update before the end of the week, and I was 100% expecting CS to put one out describing in detail why it's taking them so long.20:25
vkoskiv_I would argue that a company the size of mouser should have the resources to not leave a smaller company like MNT waiting like this.20:26
vkoskiv_But I can't be too salty at CS. This project wouldn't exist without them, as far as I'm aware.20:26
