ex-parrotI’m trying to get to the point where I can start debugging Xorg, but I’m currently stuck on “drmSetMaster failed: Device or resource busy”. Does anyone have a “working” xorg.conf I can crib or at least have an idea about what this specific issue means?09:39
ex-parrotCurrently just trying to rebuild xorg with drmSetMaster disabled because it seems like if you’re the first thing opening the device you’re already the master 09:57
swivelyeah there's kind of a hack in in the kernel where the first opener defaults to master without needing privileges iirc10:00
swiveland iirc there's kind of a bug where if that process exits or otherwise closes the drm device, another open won't get master, i.e. it doesn't restore the "default to master on open" state, it's a one time thing10:01
ex-parrotI can’t imagine anything is touching the drm device before me 10:03
ex-parrotI’m not really sure what “device or resource busy” means in this context, I guess I need to go look in the drm code 10:04
ex-parrothttps://img.hotplate.co.nz/Rbb4LAAy if only I could find my USB to centronics adapter I could be printing out all of this important build output instead of just letting it scroll past 10:08

mntmnex-parrot: do you have suid bit on Xorg? otherwise you could just try as root10:49
ex-parrotyeah it wasn’t making any difference weirdly. It seems not to be the usual “permission denied”10:53
ex-parrotBy commenting out the check I can now get xorg to start and either crash or just stop the display from updating which seems like progress 10:54
ex-parrotAlso I’m impressed how quickly xorg builds on here. I think in my head I’m perpetually expecting Pentium 3 speed for compiling things :P10:54
ex-parrotok yeah other VTs are still alive 10:55
ex-parrotThis seems promising 10:57
mntmnok cool!10:58
+ odnes (~odnes@109-178-137-160.pat.ren.cosmote.net)10:59
ex-parrotIt’s just not drawing anything to the display, I just have the frozen vt from where it started 10:59
ex-parrotAh yep and if I switch in to that frozen vt from one of the ones still working it just shows the leftovers from the working vt11:00
mntmnidk if still relevant, but this helped in the olden days https://mntre.com/media/tech_notes_md/2018-11-19-using-modesetting-with-etnaviv.html11:00
ex-parrotFunnily enough that’s about the only information I could find through Google :P11:00
ex-parrotLooking for info on modesetting and etnaviv your name is plastered all over it 😂11:01
