mjwIs there a good recommendation for an arm64 build server to go with the reform?22:54
mjwI am happily trying out guix and the reform is a good little machine and is crunching through creating derivatives, but... it is a little slow.22:55
mjwApparently there are not many binary substitutions yet, so it build me two llvm versions and 3 rust versions and seems to happily want to go bootstrap its way to the latests versions (24 more to go?) and then I don't even have my icecat browser build yet... :)22:57
- artfwo (QUIT: Ping timeout: 260 seconds) (~artfwo@ubuntu/member/artfwo)22:58
mjwSo are there any fast, but not too expensive arm64 servers out there?22:58
adjtmmjw, what do you mean with "server"?23:05
mjwadjtm, just an arm64 machine I can offload heavy duty builds to23:06
adjtmmjw, https://shop.solid-run.com/product-tag/honeycomb/23:08
+ artfwo (~artfwo@ubuntu/member/artfwo)23:11
mjwthat looks promising23:12
adjtmif that's too expensive, maybe some rk3399 board?23:15

mjwYeah, I do actually have an odroid n2+, which I believe is comparible. I do use that for some arm64 buildbots.23:23
mjwBut those are kind of too slow. I build smaller projects on those, but the reform actually feels faster (didn't measure though)23:25
mntmnmjw: LS2160A23:25
mntmnsorry i meant LX2160A23:25
mntmnsolidrun has a nice little computer based on it23:25
mjwThat is what the HoneyComb LX2 is based on?23:26
mntmnyeah23:28
+ artfwo (~artfwo@ubuntu/member/artfwo)23:28
mntmni have been using it to build reform system images23:28
mjwACTION is going to have to save some money to get one 23:35
Asmadeusalternatively cross compiling might work ok if guix handles it? I know nixos isn't 100% perfect but can do some23:36
mntmnthere is a followup to LX2160A that is very interesting, it might get less hot23:36
mntmna mini version of it23:36
mjwI am happy with how cool the reform stays. Even building for 24 hours it feels fine.23:43
mntmnnice, good to hear23:45
mjwAsmadeus, that might indeed be an option. I didn't try yet. Guix should handle cross builds.23:46
mntmnbtw if you use other distros on reform, did you take the systemd shutdown hook with you?23:47
mntmnthat turns off the power?23:47
mjwmntmn, and while I am praising the reform, I like the keyboard (although the kids miss the spacebar). I just really need to get used to the tiny right shift key.23:48
mntmnmjw: the kids miss the space bar? ^^23:48
mjwmntmn, I am using guix as a "package manager" for now.23:48
mntmnmjw: i see!23:48
mjwmntmn, they steal the reform all the time :)23:49
mjwThe keyboard does make nice clicky sounds. It is just the keep hitting the alts instead of the space :)23:50
mjwthey23:50
mntmnmjw: oh that's fun to hear! do they play something on it or what do they do with it?23:53
mjwfunnily enough they write "secret" stories on it using libreoffice. I have been told not to read them. It is their diary/secret harry potter universe.23:55
mntmnha that's amazing23:56
mjwaha /me finds https://mastodon.social/@mntmn/10623324632342518523:57
mntmnmjw: oh yeah i'm on a short vacation and played Earthbound all day on reform!23:57
