ehmrymntmn: can you give an estimate on when the betas will be ready?14:44
- B[] (QUIT: Ping timeout: 255 seconds) (~Thunderbi@125-239-58-43-fibre.sparkbb.co.nz)14:47
mntmnehmry: i've been meaning to send an update on this. there have been some delays due to coronavirus. i moved the beta motherboards PCB production to a company in bulgaria who will ship them in the first week of march.14:53
mntmnehmry: then we'll solder them and bring them up and they'll hopefully work fine.14:53
ehmrymntmn: ok, thanks14:53
mntmnehmry: then the limiting factor will be the CNC parts. we still have 4x cases from the first run of CNC parts, but these are 250g heavier than the new run. we don't know the delivery date yet for the new run, though.14:54
mntmnehmry: i was thinking about giving the option to choose the heavier case on a first-come-first-serve basis in case you don't mind the extra weight.14:54
mntmnehmry: these cases we can currently only source from china, or it would be preventively expensive.14:55
mntmnehmry: so all in all we'll be able to ship 4 beta units in mid march, which are 250g heavier than the other 4 beta units we'll ship probably end-march14:55
mntmni'll probably get a date on that tomorrow or tuesday14:56
mntmnbut all in all we are very close to shipping betas.14:56
ehmryfor me its just a matter of where to ship, I have tendency to order crowd funded hardware and then change continents during the delays14:59
ehmryif it makes any difference I want stefan/genode to get theirs before me15:03
ehmrybut whatever15:03
mntmnehmry: yeah, makes sense, anyway we won't ship anything without a final confirmation15:35

mntmnhey we need 100 github stars to expedite setup with open collective, there are only 12 missing. if you have a github account, would you be so nice to star the reform repo? thanks! https://github.com/mntmn/reform20:33

swivelthough irc seems pretty idle atm21:08

swivelnp, your reform project is one of the few things in computing I'm genuinely enthusiastic about these days22:13
mntmnhappy to hear :)22:14
swivela few of my classic X-series thinkpad loving friends have responded with "all it needs is a trackpoint"22:14
swiveldo you think it would be difficult to throw an X60-style thinkpad keyboard in the new reform chassis?22:15
mntmnhaha i'm hearing the trackpoint thing a lot22:15
mntmnif we get enough traction i'm sure somebody can do a mod22:15
swivelim pretty sure if it could receive one of those new OEM classic thinkpad keyboards found on ebay a bunch of thinkpad lovers would jump at it22:16

mntmnwhat are the dimensions swivel ?22:26
pkill9the old thinkpad keyboards aren't mechanical though22:49
swivelthese are not mutually exclusive options22:50

swivelmntmn: 26cm wide, 12.5cm tall at the left, 13cm tall at the right 14.5cm tall at the center22:54

- specing (QUIT: Remote host closed the connection) (~specing@unaffiliated/specing)23:32
mntmnswivel: ok, doesn't fit, there's only ~10cm tall space for the keyboard, 11cm-12cm if you discard the keyboard bezel. so you would need to modify the chassis23:37
mntmnbkeys: thanks23:37
swivelmntmn: hmm bummer23:39
