AnyMoose | I'm trying a ZZ9000 first time install on A2000 and "Install ZZ9000" is throwing an error | 03:39 |
AnyMoose | it can't find "Libs/Picasso96/ZZ9000.card.nodma | 03:39 |
minute | huh | 08:32 |
minute | what's the content of Libs/Picasso96 in the extracted archive? | 08:34 |

+ mnemotron (~mnemotron@194.135.47.239) | 11:08
mnemotron | howdy | 11:08 |
mnemotron | i tried using my a3000 without the 256 megs, but that was no fun with 2m chip and 4m fast, relocated kick and loaded modules :( back to the standard firmware with autoboot, fastram and random crashes | 11:09 |
_Bnu | In general, it's very hard to make an Amiga with no CPU local 32-bit Fast perform very well, but it's hard to do anything about it with accelerators being so expensive. Maybe once shanshe gets some spare time to work out the fine details on the Z3660 you can switch to one of those for the CPU board. | 12:21 |
mnemotron | i'd very much like the TF4060, but that's weeks or months off... and Matze on the A1K forum says he would release his 040/060 board "this month" | 12:24 |
mnemotron | if the cpu itself wasn't so ex-pen-sive | 12:24 |
_Bnu | Yeah, I dunno. Anything not open source doesn't interest me too much these days, haha. | 12:26 |
mnemotron | both are open-source, afaik | 12:28 |
mnemotron | ah, just read "the final pcb is on its way to me. won't be this month because i selected cheap postage" | 12:29 |
mnemotron | there are some pics in the thread. https://www.a1k.org/forum/index.php?threads/73349/ | 12:29 |
_Bnu | TF can say his stuff is open source all he wants, but it really isn't. | 12:38 |
mnemotron | it's not? i'm not into the specifics | 12:39 |
_Bnu | A for Matze's board, I have no idea. | 12:39 |
mnemotron | matze's repos look pretty open :) https://gitlab.com/users/MHeinrichs/projects | 12:39 |
_Bnu | You can build your own TF boards, maybe, but you are at the mercy of TF as far as the firmware goes, no source code for it is available. | 12:39 |
mnemotron | oh! that sucks :( | 12:41 |
mnemotron | didn't know that | 12:41 |
minute | weird to me that nobody is selling a big box accelerator that just works TM ? | 14:01 |
minute | naja i will not go down that hellish road :D | 14:01 |
_Bnu | Since it's Amiga, it's probably impossible to make one... | 14:16 |
_Bnu | It'll randomly not work on some specific serial number range of A3000/A4000 because they have one capacitor on backwards and it only breaks your accelerator. | 14:16 |
- xet7 (QUIT: Remote host closed the connection) (~xet7@user/xet7) | 14:18
+ xet7 (~xet7@user/xet7) | 14:20
minute | yeah | 14:22 |
mnemotron | is there a big box graphics card that just works TM ? ;-) | 14:36 |
mnemotron | i guess the devil is in the details. building the card seems to be "easy" compared to getting the chip firmwares to finally work on all configurations | 14:37 |
minute | mnemotron: the card works for most people, yeah | 14:45 |
minute | mnemotron: and yes, sometimes there is trouble | 14:45 |
mnemotron | i was just being snippy ;) | 14:45 |
mnemotron | there are 643 members in the ZZ9000 facebook group, if you don't know | 14:46 |
mnemotron | it's just a bit frustrating that there are these last 10% of the experience that are missing and i know it must be as frustrating (and time-consuming) for you as it is for the users | 14:49 |
_Bnu | Facebook always feels like an alternate reality to me. | 14:52 |
mnemotron | i just think of it as a pimped FIDO or UseNet with people i mostly wouldn't let into my house ;) | 14:57 |
pasik | _Bnu: i think some of the TF cards have open firmware on github | 15:51 |
pasik | looking at the repos.. tf1230 i guess at least | 15:52 |
pasik | i think there was others aswell, at least earlier | 15:53 |
pasik | would be nice to have the firmware sources for the 060 editions of course, but oh well | 15:53 |
_Bnu | You're not allowed to make any changes to it. Yes, you can see the code, but you're not allowed to do anything with it. | 15:58 |
_Bnu | Also, IIRC that was the board he ragequit when Edu Arana's friend made that other 68030 board for the A1200. | 15:58 |
mnemotron | kinda sad | 15:59 |
mnemotron | well, you can make changes, but you're not allowed to publish them again | 16:00 |
