hackerdude | Yea there's something screwy. 800x600 is the only usable mode, but when a change in the screen happens (double click on something, new app launching, etc) there's a huge 5-10s wait before it draws it very slowly. | 00:04 |
---|---|---|
mntmn | hmmm | 00:08 |
mntmn | mntgfx is wrong, that's some new bug | 00:08 |
mntmn | with newest p96 i think | 00:08 |
mntmn | so mntgfx are the va2000 modes | 00:09 |
mntmn | is that a 68030? try "cpu nocache" | 00:09 |
hackerdude | Yeah, CPU Nocache says | 00:12 |
mntmn | does that change the speed? | 00:12 |
hackerdude | System: 68030 58882 68030-MMU FastROM (Inst: NoCache Burst) Data: Nocache Burts) | 00:13 |
hackerdude | Nope. Same speed. | 00:13 |
hackerdude | Rubberbanding, like dragging a window works great, it's just once I release the window and it has to redraw the window it sits | 00:13 |
+ Salrus (~Salrus@2607:fb90:ab49:93aa:1557:d7fa:2d70:3ede) | 00:14 | |
mntmn | weird | 00:14 |
mntmn | do you have any fastmem at the moment? | 00:15 |
mntmn | ah yeah in z3 space right? | 00:15 |
hackerdude | Fast has 1.2Mb available, 3.4Mb in Use | 00:16 |
Salrus | hi, I need help I have a ECS A2000 and trying to use the ZZ9500 adapter and the A500+ firmware errors and the A2000 doesn't work with ether the adapter or the video slot (because ECS it looks) | 00:16 |
mntmn | can you try an even smaller res, like 640x480 8 bit? | 00:16 |
mntmn | Salrus: which firmware version? | 00:17 |
Salrus | 1.8 | 00:17 |
mntmn | you have a videoslot adapter too yes? | 00:17 |
Salrus | yes | 00:17 |
mntmn | ok try the 1.9 beta fw & drivers | 00:18 |
mntmn | http://dump.mntmn.com/zz9000-fwpack-1_9-20210923-zorro2.zip | 00:18 |
mntmn | (with videoslot adapter) | 00:18 |
Salrus | ok | 00:18 |
mntmn | i will try to publish the other versions tomorrow | 00:18 |
hackerdude | Switching to a ZZ9000: 640x480 8 bit is super slow too. Switching to the NTSC one goes back to normal speed | 00:19 |
Salrus | if I have a video toaster would the zz9500 adapter work or is that only for the 500 | 00:19 |
Salrus | thanks for the help I will report back | 00:20 |
mntmn | hackerdude: ok something's going wrong there. on the a500 with aca500 and 1230/4 it is very fast | 00:20 |
mntmn | hackerdude: and also in a2000 with pp&s 040 | 00:20 |
mntmn | Salrus: sorry idk that @ video toaster. the denise adapter should word with a500 fw but there is no fw 1.9 yet for a500 | 00:21 |
hackerdude | Yea it unnerves me that Picasso86Mode still shows two. ZZ9000 and mntgfx VA2000 Fact. | 00:21 |
mntmn | hackerdude: try to attach ZZ9000 to ZZ9000 board in the menu | 00:22 |
mntmn | of p96mode | 00:23 |
hackerdude | It complained about clock not matching (75 vs 100). Overrode and I'm rebooting now. | 00:24 |
hackerdude | Whoops. I get output but now it's like the horizontal is broken :) | 00:26 |
mntmn | huh | 00:26 |
mntmn | clock not matching stuff you can ignore, means nothing | 00:26 |
- Salrus (QUIT: Ping timeout: 252 seconds) (~Salrus@2607:fb90:ab49:93aa:1557:d7fa:2d70:3ede) | 00:27 | |
mntmn | what do you mean by horizontal is broken? | 00:27 |
mntmn | shifted picture? or distorded? | 00:27 |
mntmn | distorted | 00:27 |
hackerdude | Nonsensible screen, as if an old analog set had the horiz turned all the way | 00:27 |
hackerdude | Ok hold on might have been a fluke. Rebooted and it's fine now | 00:29 |
mntmn | oh ok | 00:29 |
mntmn | still slow i guess? | 00:30 |
hackerdude | Yep. Still slow tho | 00:30 |
mntmn | maybe you could do a memory speed test on the area $210000+ | 00:31 |
mntmn | it sounds like your zorro transfer speed might be limited | 00:31 |
hackerdude | Now the display modes do show as ZZ90000: tho | 00:31 |
mntmn | ok good | 00:31 |
mntmn | i forgot the name but there is a tool that can do speed test on memory addresses/areas | 00:32 |
mntmn | if the card is at $200000 the framebuffer starts at $210000 | 00:32 |
+ Salrus (~Salrus@2607:fb90:ab49:93aa:5813:a55b:768a:207e) | 00:35 | |
Salrus | same issue :( black screen when using ECS modes | 00:36 |
Salrus | when using the video card slot | 00:36 |
hackerdude | Got SSSpeed to see if it can test the memory casrds | 00:37 |
hackerdude | Hmmm it doesn't test a whole bunch. It sort of just says the access times and you can't set an address. Chip from 858-3677 nanoseconds, fast 60 nanoseconds. Will look for another tool | 00:42 |

hackerdude | A final update on this for now. Using a res of 800x600@165bit with 128 colors seems to work more or less okay. I do get a lot of background effects - parts that won't redraw, parts that leave little dots on the screen after closing windows. Redraw all seems to fix it | 01:46 |
Salrus | well I can't get anything from HDMI I think I am going to call it a night | 02:04 |

apolkosnik[m] | This is interesting... On the cold boot when the memory is not showing up, the gl-frontier intro works OK, but after reboot, when the Z3 memory is there, it freezes my a4k to the point where I have to turn it off | 05:00 |
apolkosnik[m] | When I press ctrl-amiga-amiga, the box reboots, but the screen still shows the frozen frame from frontier intro | 05:02 |

mntmn | haha ZZVMODE_2560x1440_30 | 20:30 |
mntmn | does that work? we shall see... | 20:30 |
KK | finally got my amiga working again..... a4k, 4060@50, zz + deneb + repulse, os 3.2, latest p96. also pulled out the serial to usb cable from zz out of the box so if i can be useful please shout. can also hook up jtag if required | 20:39 |
mntmn | awesome KK | 20:50 |
mntmn | i can confirm that the 2560x1440 mode works fine (at 30hz) | 20:50 |
mntmn | i'm not sure if the sii chip does 4k... i'm surprised it can do QHD | 20:52 |
pasik | well, it's easily withing hdmi 1.4 bandwidth limits | 21:36 |
pasik | probably even hdmi 1.3 bandwidth limits as it's only 30Hz | 21:37 |
pasik | 2560x1440 (reduced blanking) @ 60 Hz @ 8bpp RGB 4:4:4 is around ~7,2 Gbps.. so @30Hz around 3,6 Gbps only | 21:39 |
pasik | hdmi 1.3 can do 6,75 Gbps, and hdmi 1.4 can do ~10 Gbps | 21:40 |
mntmn | release in progress https://source.mnt.re/amiga/zz9000-firmware/-/releases/1.9 | 22:02 |
