emiespo[m]Finally trying the new firmware (Z3), Screenmode doesn’t seem to find any ZZ mode anymore :-( but they are there in P96Mode00:32

- KK (QUIT: Quit: Client closed) (~KK@93-139-197-184.adsl.net.t-com.hr)00:40
emiespo[m]Let me try again… my very first boot was with the old ZZ9000.card, and the screen was messed up (but RTG). I then copied the new file over —> modes lost00:41
emiespo[m](Doing so as I copy files using the network itself)00:43
emiespo[m]So reattached settings to the ZZ9K in P96Mode, but still nothing… Let me check if they are odd for some reason00:44
emiespo[m]Ok the existing modes were somewhat messed up, I killed them all and recreated a new one 🤞00:48
emiespo[m]So this is weird. I can test the new mode in P96Mode, but then can’t see the mode in Screenmode00:50
emiespo[m]Maybe some incompatible setting of the monitor driver?00:51
+ KK (~KK@93-139-197-184.adsl.net.t-com.hr)00:53
emiespo[m]Ok found the issue … an extra char ended up in the setting tooltip. However I still had to recreate the settings as the prev ones got messed up… can see a 16bit wb now :-) let me test the USB functionality00:55
emiespo[m]First USB stick: no life signs… does it need to be attached from cold boot?00:59
emiespo[m]Ok it does01:01
apolkosnik[m]Yes01:01
emiespo[m]Seems to recognise correctly a 16gb stick :-) (OS 3.9)… Let me try with a 128gb card + microsd adapter01:02
apolkosnik[m]Cool01:04
emiespo[m]Another nice improvement for the CS MK I01:04
emiespo[m]I can now see the rainbow “copper” effect when the Amiga is reset01:05
emiespo[m]It would very seldom appear with any other firmware01:05
emiespo[m]Possibly the internal video is switched much faster now?01:06
- S0rin (QUIT: Ping timeout: 252 seconds) (~S0rin@user/s0rin)01:07
emiespo[m]I could only find a 64 gig stick at hand… that didn’t work. Let me try an SD card now01:08
+ S0rin (~S0rin@user/s0rin)01:08
emiespo[m]Wow with the SD card - still 64G - I got weird system requests with validation errors and “duplicate blocks”01:10
emiespo[m]And then a crash.01:10
emiespo[m]I’ll “stick” to 16g… I can possibly also test a 32G one quickly01:10
emiespo[m]So 32G seems to be the working limit, at least for me01:12
emiespo[m]ACTION uploaded an image: (2525KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/ZHTtzDmdURjafqbDvRaVUToj/ima_d37d849.jpeg >01:13
apolkosnik[m]Nice! 01:14
emiespo[m]Also, this worked with a simple boot… no need to power cycle. Weird, but still cool… given the time, I don’t have… time to check what’s on that stick and sacrifice it with a format ahahah01:14
emiespo[m]Will do that tomorrow. The ability to see the CS MK I rainbow makes me think the scandoubler functionality is much improved now. A lot less delay… let me try launch a demo or something similar to confirm01:15
emiespo[m]Oh I got the same palette glitch01:16

emiespo[m]This happens - from time to time - since firmware 1.301:17

trixsteri wondered if my issue with fw 1.9 might be my sd card is it stopped working completely last night! new sd now and sadly fw 1.9 (both z2 and z3) arent working. Occasionally a soft reboot will actually enable me to get into the early boot menu (!) but a boot from thereon returns quickly returns an 80000004 guru after a little disk activity and a return to it not booting. I'm using 3.1.4 on this machine by the way. I still suspect 16:37
trixsterthat something in the change from fw 1.8 to 1.9 is now clashing with the prometheus firestorm pci busboard16:37
trixsterdifficult to test or confirm if noone out there has the same or similar setup and it testing 1.9 at the moment too!16:38
apolkosnik[m]Did you rename / remove the old ZZ9000 drivers from DEVS:? 16:57
mntmntrixster: can you get into boot with no startup sequence?17:06
mntmntrixster: that could be very useful for debugging17:06
mntmntrixster: be sure to install "mon" in C: (https://aminet.net/package/dev/moni/mon165) and then if you manage to go to boot-with-no-startup-sequence CLI, i can give you some debug commands17:28
mntmni guess i should make a CLI tool for debugging...17:28
mntmnor maybe a script for mon17:28
trixsterI’ll give that a try now @mntmn17:35
trixster@apolkosnik[m]: yes, old drivers renamed17:36
trixsterThis seems to be an issue before s-s is invoked because I can only occasionally convince the machine to drop into early boot menu17:37
mntmntrixster: when you arrive in early boot, do you see zz9000 in the expansion list?17:42
mntmn2801417:42
apolkosnik[m]Interesting, sounds like a race condition somewhere, since things happen sometimes 17:43
mntmnok, now need to remember how to export the .tcl file for the updated block design...17:45
mntmnit could be that we can tune dtack timeout to make the fw more compatible18:03
mntmn_Bnu: FIY fw1.9 firmware+drivers merged to masters 18:05
trixsteryes on the handful of occasions i get into early boot then two 28014 entries are there, flagged as working. but then either boot or boot with no startup sequence will result in an 80000004 and guru, or immediate power light flashing and a system hang. i have not been able to get to early boot menu at all in the last 30 mins of testing. i removed the WarpEngine to try the motherboard 030 but that also does not work18:08
trixsterit is worth mentioning at this stage that I like all mediator and prometheus owners still seem to need one zorro card in place to get anywhere. even with the working 1.8 fw, if i take out my prisma megamix i never get further than a yellow boot screen. it seems that zz9000 needs to have a zorro card in place in order to not conflict with zorro allocation grabbing by mediator/prometheus. whilst testing 1.9 i found this to be true 18:10
trixsteras well - if i take out the prisma then i get the yellow screen when turning the machine on18:10
mntmnok thanks18:12
mntmni wonder if the autoboot makes it crash for you18:12
mntmni can make an FW for you without autoboot enabled18:12
mntmnbecause if your cpu maybe gets garbled instructions for the autoboot rom, that's why it crashes18:13
trixsterid be keen to try!18:13
mntmni'm building a version with fastram and autboot toggled off18:13

trixstergood news, works :)18:33
mntmntrixster: :O18:34
mntmntrixster: now the question is, is that because of the no fast ram or the no autoboot...18:34
mntmntrixster: does this work including RTG?18:34
trixsteryes, RTG works fine with 1.9 zz9000.card18:36
mntmnok cool18:36
trixsterjust trying ethernet now18:36
mntmni will build you a version with nofast, but autoboot to cross-check18:37
trixstercool18:37
trixsterdoes the fw i have at the moment have working ethernet?18:37
trixsterthere is stuff in the fw for that? or it's all in zz9000net.device?18:37

trixstergreat, will report in a moment. I appreciate you taking time on your saturday to do this by the way! amazing19:09
+ my_pc_is_amiga (~my_pc_is_@73.90.211.27)19:09
trixsterok, this is back to the original problem, so it would appear something about the autoboot is clashing with something on the system (i assume the prometheus) 19:12
+ S0rin (~S0rin@user/s0rin)19:13
trixsterstill cannot get to a no startup sequence command prompt. did manage to get into early boot, and the zz9000 was shown as working (along with prometheus and the other zorro card)19:13
trixstertried again the motherboard 030, still not working, so i guess that means the warpengine and it's 060 isnt the issue19:15
trixsteris there anything debug-wise i can try on the working 1.9 no autoboot no fast fw to help?19:16

mntmntrixster: nothing that i can think of right now...19:28
mntmntrixster: do you need the z3 fast?19:28
trixsterNo, I have plenty of ram :)19:29
mntmntrixster: also, i should give you the zzusb.device to see if it works standalone (without being loaded from rom)19:29
mntmnok19:29
mntmntrixster: with the noast-noram fw, you can try to put this in Devs: and see if you can communicate with it with i.e. HDInstTools http://dump.mntmn.com/zzusb.device19:40
mntmnnofast-noram19:40
trixsterWill try now19:42
trixsterit works :)19:50
mntmnoh that's cool then19:50
mntmntrixster: i also made another version that does not scan for partitions in init (not sure if relevant) http://dump.mntmn.com/zzusb.device.noauto19:51
trixstertried a 32GB Sandisk cruzer, and a 16GB sandisk something-or-other. it didnt work with a usb2 4GB teamgroup stick19:51
mntmnok, interesting19:51
mntmnalright, gonna go home now19:51
mntmnthanks for all the testing!19:51

trixsterno problem, thanks for the help this afternoon! 19:52
mntmnok, good to know!19:52
trixsterit would be really interesting to see what the issue with the autoboot rom is! 19:52

emiespo[m]Hi! I have something more to report… was trying to format a USB stick (16GB, one of those actually recognised by HDToolBox)… it gets stuck when I try to partition it. Ie mouse becomes busy and doesn’t come back.21:31
emiespo[m]However it does something as after a reboot I could see the standard 4 partitions created by HTB… now I tried again, it got stuck again. Accidentally clicked on one of the partition icons, and this happened:21:33
emiespo[m]ACTION uploaded an image: (5733KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/RznQzIQhyyauyhyPCVzOxLeg/ima_0edafda.jpeg >21:33
emiespo[m]Btw can you see my pictures? Seems a new cool function of Element.21:34

mntmneeek @ that effect21:38
+ KK (~KK@93-139-134-188.adsl.net.t-com.hr)21:57
emiespo[m]<mntmn> "eeek @ that effect" <- Makes me think that something goes haywire? Like HTB trashing memory due to some invalid values reported?22:10
mntmnsounds about right emiespo[m] 22:11
emiespo[m]Oh indeed! It’s allocating memory non stop22:11
apolkosnik[m]Which Kickstart version is it running? 22:12
mntmnotoh the usb buffer is always in the same place22:12
emiespo[m]Can see the RAM down from 400 mb to 150 in like 15 seconds22:12
mntmnwow ok22:12
mntmnbut probably its trashing amiga ram22:12
mntmnyeah22:12
emiespo[m]Yeah the trashing might be a side effect of running out of memory, I didn’t notice (and didn’t take a picture) earlier22:13
emiespo[m]apolkosnik[m]: A modified 1mb ROM with 3.922:13
apolkosnik[m]Thanks22:14
mntmnok22:14
emiespo[m]Oh weird… after running out of memory HTB just released everything (including the mouse pointer) and back to the interface selection screen ahah22:14
mntmnlol22:14
emiespo[m]Well written ahah. The pendrive is a Verbatim 16G, reported as 14,9 GB in HDTB22:15
mntmnthat sounds ok22:16
mntmnthe usual advertising in 1000s of bytes...22:17
emiespo[m]Yes. The other interesting thing is that some sticks won’t work (this type of drive is unsupported), or break the FS (with one of 64GB).22:18
mntmnmhm mhm!22:18
emiespo[m]Btw despite not being able to go to the partition page, I can see the raw partitions and format them22:19
mntmnfunky22:19
emiespo[m]Even if I didn’t save, that is… 4 parts of roughly 3800mb. I’ll try to format one now22:20
emiespo[m]Format seems to have worked22:22
emiespo[m]Now copying files…got the palette glitch again. I wonder if it’s also due to my “old” P96 (3.01 or something).22:23
emiespo[m]ACTION uploaded an image: (5034KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/KjHmAixVJhfxxxDEFLiKRnMG/ima_032e5bd.jpeg >22:23
emiespo[m]Uh ho… checksum error :-(22:25
emiespo[m]In block disk 1.997.30922:25
emiespo[m]And finally the partition process crashed22:26
mntmnwhat's the filesystem?22:26
emiespo[m]Trying with FFS22:26
mntmnok22:26
emiespo[m]Will try with PFS now22:26
mntmnok22:27
emiespo[m]Reboot -> partitions are gone 🤷‍♂️22:28
emiespo[m]Oh now I get the error I get with a few other sticks: “HdTB can’t handle this type of drive”22:29
emiespo[m]Let me try to reformat it MBR and try again22:30
mntmnshouldn't be mbr22:40
emiespo[m]Yes, but it was that earlier. I reformatted it to mbr under MacOS and now HDTB sees it again22:46
mntmnweird22:46
emiespo[m]Just trying to report as much information as possible :-) doesn’t have to necessarily make sense22:46
mntmnyeah that's good22:47
mntmni appreciate it22:47
emiespo[m]Np! So back to step 2: rebooting (can’t access the partition map) but it should’ve created the 4 partitions now22:48
emiespo[m]Oh weird I only see 3 of them now. Still 3800mb 🤷‍♂️ and remembered I can’t really PFS format them, as I didn’t change the default FS. Let me try HDInstTool22:49
emiespo[m]HDIT seems to have done something… I was able to create a partition. But then I can’t see it from WB. Let me try with a partition smaller than 4GB22:57
emiespo[m]Oh I had to add the FS to it, forgot about that… let’s see22:59
emiespo[m]So HDIT seems to work, I save then reboot… but on the reboot everything is lost. As if it wouldn’t save both partitions and filesystems.23:04
emiespo[m]Oh HDIT allows you to format before rebooting… interesting! It picked up PFS, formatting started… but resulted in this23:09
emiespo[m]ACTION uploaded an image: (6680KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/XlwIYDQJwsmzrYphNJUofDjP/ima_04c2786.jpeg >23:10
emiespo[m]Managed to format a partition < 2G eventually. Formatted with PFS, before saving and rebooting… could even see it on the WB, but after reboot everything is gone.23:16
emiespo[m]My guess: something in the values read/written is misbehaving, causing a chain reaction.23:17
